Head to head

ZIIP GX vs ZIIP Halo

Same app, same treatment library, same company. The honest difference is a published current range on one device and no model-specific figure on the other, and that is a smaller gap than the price difference implies.

Disclosure: Glow & Current earns a commission when you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which device wins or what we say about it — here is exactly how we are funded, and here is how we evaluate devices.

Buy the ZIIP GX if you want ZIIP's treatment library at the lowest price: it runs the same app and the same routines as the Halo, with a larger contact area, and it is usually discounted. Buy the Halo if you want the model that publishes an actual current range, 900 nA to 400 microamps, and that will stay in the lineup longest. Neither device holds a 510(k) record we could match to its name, which is the single most important sentence on this page.

The mechanism

The nanocurrent claim, and what it rests on

ZIIP's argument is that the shape of the waveform matters as much as its amplitude, and that nanocurrent - current a thousand times smaller than microcurrent - does something distinct. That is a genuine position rather than marketing noise, and the Halo's published floor of 900 nanoamps is the only figure in this category that even addresses it.

What does not exist is a published comparison showing a nanocurrent routine outperforming a microcurrent one on the same face. Treat waveform variety as a feature you may value, not as a demonstrated advantage. How microcurrent is proposed to work, and what the literature supports.

Wins on published specification

ZIIP Halo

ZIIP Beauty · Best for buyers who want a number on the page

900 nA to 400 microamps across up to 23 waveform combinations, with a four-minute flagship routine called THE LIFT. The current model, so it is the one that stays supported. No clearance located for the Halo itself.

The app-driven device that runs nanocurrent as well as microcurrent, with a published current range that spans three orders of magnitude.

Flagship routineTHE LIFT, 4 minutes
ControlTreatments are pushed from the ZIIP app
ClearanceNone located for the Halo; see K161484 and K212342 for the brand

FDA clearance not located

No 510(k) record located for the Halo specifically. ZIIP's cleared devices on file are the ZIIP Device (K161484, 24 February 2017) and ZIIP+ (K212342, 23 September 2021), both product code NFO.

What works

  • Publishes an actual current range, including the nanocurrent floor
  • The only device here that treats waveform shape as the variable
  • Four-minute flagship routine is realistically repeatable

What does not

  • No located clearance for this model
  • The device is useless without the app and an account
  • Conductive gel is proprietary and a continuing cost

ZIIP GX

ZIIP Beauty · Best for the same treatments for less money

Same app, same treatment library, larger contact area, and routinely discounted below the Halo. ZIIP does not publish a GX-specific current range, and we could not match the GX name to a 510(k) record.

The older full-size ZIIP, still sold, with the same app-driven waveform approach.

ZIIP's cleared devices on file are the ZIIP Device (K161484) and ZIIP+ (K212342). We could not match the GX name to a specific record.

What works

  • Same treatment library as the Halo
  • Often discounted below the Halo
  • Larger contact area than the Halo

What does not

  • Superseded in the lineup
  • No model-specific published current range
  • No clearance record we could match to the name

Dependency

The app is the product, and that is a risk

Both devices are inert without the ZIIP app and an account. The treatment library is the reason people buy ZIIP, and it is also the reason both devices are tied to a company continuing to publish routines. A NuFACE works the same way in ten years with no account at all; a ZIIP depends on the app surviving.

That dependency cuts in the GX's favor on value. If the app is the product and both devices run the same library, paying the Halo premium buys a published number, a smaller body and a longer support horizon rather than a different treatment.

The decision

Who should buy which

  • GX if the treatment library is why you are here and the discount is real.
  • Halo if you want the current model, the contoured body and the only published current range ZIIP offers. The Halo on its own terms.
  • Neither if a located clearance for the exact device is non-negotiable - that points to NuFACE, compared with ZIIP directly.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

What is the difference between the ZIIP GX and the ZIIP Halo?
The Halo is the current model and publishes a current range of 900 nanoamps to 400 microamps across up to 23 waveform combinations. The GX is the older full-size device with a larger contact area and no model-specific published range. Both run the same app and the same treatment library.
Is the ZIIP Halo FDA cleared?
We could not locate a 510(k) record for the Halo itself. ZIIP's cleared devices on file are the ZIIP Device (K161484, 24 February 2017) and ZIIP+ (K212342, 23 September 2021), both under product code NFO.
Is the ZIIP GX still worth buying?
If the treatment library is what you want, yes - it runs the same routines from the same app, with a larger contact area, usually at a lower price. You give up the published current range and buy a device that has been superseded in the lineup.
Do ZIIP devices work without the app?
No. Treatments are pushed to the device from the ZIIP app, and an account is required. That dependency applies to both the GX and the Halo.
