The best microcurrent devices for mature skin
Mature skin does not need a different mechanism, it needs a device you can control and a routine you can sustain. That rules out more of this category than the marketing admits.

Disclosure: Glow & Current earns a commission when you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which device wins or what we say about it — here is exactly how we are funded, and here is how we evaluate devices.
For mature skin the device to buy is the NuFACE TRINITY+: it is the only one in this category that publishes its output, it holds clearances for both the handset and its red-LED attachment, and its attachment system reaches the eye and lip areas where age-related change shows first. If you want finer control than a preset allows, the MyoLift Mini is the alternative; if the barrier is time rather than technique, the ZIIP Halo's four-minute routine is the one you will keep doing.
Method
What actually matters when skin is older
- A published output figure. Most brands refuse to publish one. Without it you cannot tell whether a device is doing anything at the setting you are using.
- Control over intensity. Thinner skin and reduced subcutaneous padding make a fixed preset less forgiving. Manual control or a wide range beats a single button.
- Access to the eye and lip areas. Large spheres skip exactly the places where lines set first after 50.
- A session you will repeat for years. Microcurrent is the most abandoned category in home skincare, and an abandoned device at 340 microamps does nothing at all.

In detail
Every pick, and why
No. 1 · Best overall
NuFACE TRINITY+
NuFACE · Best for a full-face routine with the eye and lip areas included
The only device here that publishes a microamp ceiling - up to 340, plus 25 from Boost - and it holds two located clearances, K201782 for the device and K212947 for the red-LED attachment. The Effective Lip and Eye head reaches where the large spheres cannot.
The reference microcurrent device: swappable attachments, an app, a published microamp ceiling and the deepest clearance history in the category.
Specifications
| Output | Up to 340 microamps; the Boost button adds 25 microamps |
|---|---|
| Attachments | Facial Trainer, Effective Lip and Eye, Wrinkle Reducer (red LED) |
| Protocol | 5 times a week for 60 days, then 2-3 times a week |
| Warranty | 2 years |
| Clearance | K201782 device, K212947 Wrinkle Reducer attachment |
FDA clearance located
510(k) K201782 (NuFace Trinity Plus Device, cleared 22 January 2021, product code NFO - over-the-counter powered facial toning). The Wrinkle Reducer attachment carries its own clearance, K212947 (2 April 2022, product code OHS).
What works
- Publishes its actual microamp output, which most of this category refuses to do
- Two located clearances, one for the device and one for the LED attachment
- Two-year warranty is the longest here
What does not
- Attachments are sold separately and add up fast
- Needs conductive gel every session, which is a running cost
- The app is a convenience, not a reason to buy
Specifications from NuFACE product page; FDA 510(k) K201782 and K212947, checked 13 October 2026.
No. 2 · Best manual control
7E Wellness MyoLift Mini
7E Wellness · Best for anyone who wants to set the current themselves
Manual microamp adjustment and twin probes, which is the closest a home device gets to esthetician technique. The family clearance is K213078 for the MyoLift QT; we could not locate a separate record for the Mini. Steepest learning curve here.
A professional-lineage true microcurrent device with manual current control rather than preset routines.
Specifications
| Control | Manual microamp adjustment rather than fixed presets |
|---|---|
| Probes | Twin handheld probes, esthetician-style technique |
| Clearance | K213078 covers the MyoLift QT; no separate Mini record located |
FDA clearance not located
The MyoLift QT carries 510(k) K213078 (27 April 2023, applicant Johari Digital Healthcare Limited, product code NFO). We could not locate a separate record for the Mini.
What works
- Manual current control is the closest a home device gets to professional technique
- The family has a located clearance in the right product code
- Twin probes let you work one muscle at a time
What does not
- Steep learning curve, and it punishes sloppy technique
- No separate located clearance for the Mini
- Needs cotton tips and solution, not just gel
Specifications from FDA 510(k) K213078, checked 13 October 2026.
No. 3 · Best short routine
ZIIP Halo
ZIIP Beauty · Best for four minutes, most evenings, for years
Publishes a real range, 900 nA to 400 microamps, across up to 23 waveform combinations, with a four-minute flagship routine. No clearance located for the Halo itself - ZIIP's records are K161484 and K212342 for earlier devices.
The app-driven device that runs nanocurrent as well as microcurrent, with a published current range that spans three orders of magnitude.
Specifications
| Output | 900 nA to 400 microamps across up to 23 waveform combinations |
|---|---|
| Flagship routine | THE LIFT, 4 minutes |
| Control | Treatments are pushed from the ZIIP app |
| Clearance | None located for the Halo; see K161484 and K212342 for the brand |
FDA clearance not located
No 510(k) record located for the Halo specifically. ZIIP's cleared devices on file are the ZIIP Device (K161484, 24 February 2017) and ZIIP+ (K212342, 23 September 2021), both product code NFO.
What works
- Publishes an actual current range, including the nanocurrent floor
- The only device here that treats waveform shape as the variable
- Four-minute flagship routine is realistically repeatable
What does not
- No located clearance for this model
- The device is useless without the app and an account
- Conductive gel is proprietary and a continuing cost
Specifications from ZIIP Halo retail specification; FDA 510(k) database query, checked 13 October 2026.
No. 4 · Best for the eye and lip area
NuFACE FIX+
NuFACE · Best for adding targeted work to a device you already own
Its own clearance, K240564, cleared 27 June 2024, for short targeted passes around the eyes, lips and forehead. The effect is short-lived by design and it is not a full-face device - buy it as an addition, never as the main purchase.
A pen-sized microcurrent device for the eye area, lips and forehead lines.
Specifications
| Coverage | Eye area, lip area, forehead |
|---|---|
| Session | Short targeted passes rather than a full-face routine |
| Clearance | K240564, 27 June 2024, product code NFO |
FDA clearance located
510(k) K240564 (NuFACE FIX+, cleared 27 June 2024, applicant Carol Cole Company dba NuFACE, product code NFO).
What works
- Recent located clearance
- Reaches the orbital and perioral areas the big spheres skip
- Genuinely pocketable
What does not
- Not a full-face device and should not be bought as one
- Effect is short-lived by design
- Requires its own serum, which is a running cost
Specifications from FDA 510(k) K240564, checked 13 October 2026.
The record
Output and clearance, side by side
| Device | Published output | Control | 510(k) located |

| 7E Wellness MyoLift Mini | Not published for the Mini | Manual microamp adjustment | K213078 covers the MyoLift QT, not the Mini |
| ZIIP Halo | 900 nA to 400 microamps | App-pushed routines, up to 23 waveforms | None located for the Halo; K161484 and K212342 for the brand |
| NuFACE FIX+ | Not published | Single short program | K240564, 27 June 2024 |
The real price
The running costs nobody mentions at checkout
Every device here needs conductive gel for every session, forever, and the brands would all prefer you bought theirs. A device used five times a week gets through gel at a rate that matters over a year. What the gel actually has to do, and when a cheaper substitute is fine.
The MyoLift adds cotton tips and solution rather than gel; the ZIIP's gel is proprietary; the NuFACE FIX+ uses its own serum. None of this is a reason to avoid a device, but it belongs in the price you are comparing, not in a surprise two months later.
The honest limit
When microcurrent is the wrong purchase
If the complaint is crepey texture across the cheek rather than slackness along the jaw, light therapy addresses the dermal layer and microcurrent does not. If it is laxity you can pinch, radiofrequency works on the dermis with heat. Buying the wrong mechanism well is more expensive than buying the right one cheaply: the three compared without brand names.
There is also a hard safety line. Microcurrent is contraindicated with implanted electrical devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, and that is not a cautious footnote - it is a reason not to buy. The full contraindication list is worth five minutes before any purchase.
