Microcurrent for hooded eyes, and the limits of what it can do
Some hooding is a brow position problem and some is anatomy. Microcurrent can influence the first and cannot touch the second, and nobody selling these devices says so.

Self-assessment
Which one is yours
A rough indicator: if gently lifting the skin above the outer brow with a fingertip produces the look you want, brow position is a significant part of it. If the hood persists when the brow is lifted, the excess is in the lid itself and that is an anatomical question.
We are being deliberately cautious here. This is not a diagnostic test, periorbital anatomy varies enormously, and the honest answer for many people is that a consultation will tell them more in five minutes than any device will in six months.

Device features
Why the eye area needs a different attachment
The large twin spheres on a full-face microcurrent device are sized for the cheek and jaw. Around the orbit they are too large to place precisely, and manufacturers specify not treating directly on the eyelid.
That is why NuFACE sells the Effective Lip and Eye attachment and the separate FIX+ device, and why ZIIP's periorbital work is a specific app routine rather than a freehand pass. If you are buying microcurrent primarily for the brow, budget for the right tool rather than adapting the wrong one.
Expectations
What is realistic
- A modest change in brow position after a session, lasting hours to a couple of days. This is the effect people photograph.
- Possible cumulative change over the full protocol, if the muscular component is significant for you.
- Nothing at all if your hooding is anatomical. No device, no protocol, no duration.
- Nothing permanent. Stop and it reverts, same as everywhere else in this category.
In detail
Every pick, and why
No. 1 · Best with the right attachment
NuFACE TRINITY+
NuFACE · Best for brow lifting as part of a full routine
The Effective Lip and Eye attachment exists precisely because the large spheres cannot work the periorbital area safely or precisely. Clearance K201782, output up to 340 microamps, and the attachment is a separate purchase.
The reference microcurrent device: swappable attachments, an app, a published microamp ceiling and the deepest clearance history in the category.
Specifications
| Output | Up to 340 microamps; the Boost button adds 25 microamps |
|---|---|
| Attachments | Facial Trainer, Effective Lip and Eye, Wrinkle Reducer (red LED) |
| Protocol | 5 times a week for 60 days, then 2-3 times a week |
| Warranty | 2 years |
| Clearance | K201782 device, K212947 Wrinkle Reducer attachment |
FDA clearance located
510(k) K201782 (NuFace Trinity Plus Device, cleared 22 January 2021, product code NFO - over-the-counter powered facial toning). The Wrinkle Reducer attachment carries its own clearance, K212947 (2 April 2022, product code OHS).
What works
- Publishes its actual microamp output, which most of this category refuses to do
- Two located clearances, one for the device and one for the LED attachment
- Two-year warranty is the longest here
What does not
- Attachments are sold separately and add up fast
- Needs conductive gel every session, which is a running cost
- The app is a convenience, not a reason to buy
Specifications from NuFACE product page; FDA 510(k) K201782 and K212947, checked 13 October 2026.
No. 2 · Best dedicated eye-area device
NuFACE FIX+
NuFACE · Best for the orbital area specifically
K240564, cleared June 2024, built for the eye and lip area rather than adapted to it. Pen-sized and pocketable. It is not a full-face device and should not be bought as one.
A pen-sized microcurrent device for the eye area, lips and forehead lines.
Specifications
| Coverage | Eye area, lip area, forehead |
|---|---|
| Session | Short targeted passes rather than a full-face routine |
| Clearance | K240564, 27 June 2024, product code NFO |
FDA clearance located
510(k) K240564 (NuFACE FIX+, cleared 27 June 2024, applicant Carol Cole Company dba NuFACE, product code NFO).
What works
- Recent located clearance
- Reaches the orbital and perioral areas the big spheres skip
- Genuinely pocketable
What does not
- Not a full-face device and should not be bought as one
- Effect is short-lived by design
- Requires its own serum, which is a running cost
Specifications from FDA 510(k) K240564, checked 13 October 2026.
No. 3 · Best guided eye routine
ZIIP Halo
ZIIP Beauty · Best for following a sequence you did not invent
App routines include periorbital sequences, which matters because freelancing around the eye is the easiest way to get nothing or to irritate yourself. Published range to 400 microamps; no Halo-specific clearance located.
The app-driven device that runs nanocurrent as well as microcurrent, with a published current range that spans three orders of magnitude.
Specifications
| Output | 900 nA to 400 microamps across up to 23 waveform combinations |
|---|---|
| Flagship routine | THE LIFT, 4 minutes |
| Control | Treatments are pushed from the ZIIP app |
| Clearance | None located for the Halo; see K161484 and K212342 for the brand |
FDA clearance not located
No 510(k) record located for the Halo specifically. ZIIP's cleared devices on file are the ZIIP Device (K161484, 24 February 2017) and ZIIP+ (K212342, 23 September 2021), both product code NFO.
What works
- Publishes an actual current range, including the nanocurrent floor
- The only device here that treats waveform shape as the variable
- Four-minute flagship routine is realistically repeatable
What does not
- No located clearance for this model
- The device is useless without the app and an account
- Conductive gel is proprietary and a continuing cost
Specifications from ZIIP Halo retail specification; FDA 510(k) database query, checked 13 October 2026.

Safety around the eye
- Do not treat directly on the eyelid unless the device's own instructions specifically direct it. Manufacturers are explicit about this.
- Recent injectables in the area are a reason to wait, and to ask whoever administered them how long.
- Contact lenses out is standard manufacturer guidance for periorbital work.
- Any implanted electrical device is a hard contraindication for microcurrent anywhere on the face. Full list.
If the honest answer for you is anatomy rather than muscle tone, a device purchase is money that will not do what you want. We would rather tell you that than rank five devices against a result none of them can produce.
