Specification

What you get

648 LEDs across 633 nm red, 830 nm near-infrared and 415 nm blue. Treatment times of three to nine minutes depending on program, with a nine-minute full routine. Vibration therapy layered on top. 18.13 oz / 514 g, published. Dimensions 200 x 220 x 120 mm. Battery life quoted at 120 minutes. One-year limited warranty.

Therabody publishes more hard numbers than most of this category: weight, dimensions, battery life, warranty. Not irradiance, but more than the rest.

Regulation

The clearance, and why the applicant matters

510(k) K230293, cleared 9 June 2023, applicant Therabody, Inc., product code OHS - light-based over-the-counter wrinkle reduction.

The applicant line is worth noticing. Most consumer LED masks are cleared under a contract manufacturer's name: CurrentBody's masks under Shenzhen Kaiyan, HigherDOSE under the same. Therabody filed its own. That gives the shortest possible chain between the regulatory submission and the company whose name is on the box, and if something goes wrong there is no question about who is responsible.

One thing the clearance does not cover: acne. The mask has 415 nm blue diodes, but K230293 is in the wrinkle-reduction code with no acne indication. If acne is your concern, the Shark CryoGlow's clearance names it.

Coverage

648 diodes, and what that actually buys

It is the highest count of any rigid mask here and the second highest overall after the CurrentBody Series 3. More sources spread across the same area means more uniform coverage and fewer under-lit patches at the temples and jaw.

What it does not mean is more light. Without an irradiance figure, 648 is a count. A rigid shell also holds those diodes further from the cheekbones than a flexible one, and irradiance falls off with distance - so some of the density advantage is spent overcoming the geometry disadvantage. Neither effect is quantified by anyone.

The extra

The vibration

It is pleasant. It may help with jaw and temple tension, and percussive therapy is Therabody's actual area of expertise rather than a feature bolted on by a lighting company.

It does nothing for the photobiomodulation. It adds weight to a mask that is already the heaviest here, and the battery figure Therabody quotes - 120 minutes for a twelve-minute routine with vibration - tells you how much power it draws. Treat it as a comfort feature you either want or are paying for anyway.

Living with it

514 grams

Therabody deserves credit for publishing the weight, because almost nobody does. It also means we can be specific: half a kilogram on your face is fine lying down and awkward doing anything else. Over a nine-minute routine it becomes noticeable around the bridge of the nose.

If your intended routine is lying down with the lights off, this is a non-issue. If it was reading, cooking or moving around, buy a flexible mask instead.

Therabody TheraFace Mask

Therabody · Best for coverage, and anyone who wants the vibration

648 diodes across red, near-infrared and blue, K230293 cleared under Therabody, Inc. itself, and a published one-year warranty. Rigid, heavy, and like everyone else it will not publish an irradiance figure.

The highest diode count of the rigid masks, with vibration therapy layered on top of three wavelengths.

What works

  • A located 510(k) for this exact device
  • Red, near-infrared and blue in one mask with a published warranty
  • Vibration is a real differentiator if you use it for tension as well as skin

What does not

  • No published irradiance
  • Rigid, heavy, and it sits away from the skin at the cheekbones
  • Vibration adds cost that does nothing for the photobiomodulation case

Honest counter-case

Who should skip it

  • Anyone who wants to move during a session. 514 grams of rigid shell decides that for you.
  • Anyone buying for acne. It has blue diodes and no acne clearance; the CryoGlow has both.
  • Anyone with a narrow face. Rigid shells do not adapt.
  • Anyone who does not want the vibration. You are paying for hardware you will not use, and carrying its weight.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Is the Therabody TheraFace Mask FDA cleared?
Yes. 510(k) K230293, cleared 9 June 2023, applicant Therabody, Inc., product code OHS. Unusually for this category the clearance is held by the brand itself rather than a contract manufacturer. It does not cover acne.
How many LEDs does the TheraFace Mask have?
648, across 633 nm red, 830 nm near-infrared and 415 nm blue. It is the highest diode count of any rigid mask we looked at.
How heavy is the TheraFace Mask?
Therabody publishes 18.13 oz, which is 514 grams. That is the heaviest mask here and a direct consequence of fitting vibration hardware into a rigid shell.
Does the vibration improve the results?
Not the photobiomodulation. It may help with jaw and temple tension, which is a comfort benefit rather than a skin one.
